Population [top]
Population: The global population is estimated to number c.1,000-25,000 individuals (Wetlands International 2006), roughly equivalent to 670-17,000 mature individuals. National population estimates include: c.100-10,000 breeding pairs, c.50-1,000 individuals on migration and c.50-1,000 wintering individuals in China; c.100-10,000 breeding pairs in Korea; c.100-10,000 breeding pairs in Japan and c.100-10,000 breeding pairs and c.50-1,000 individuals on migration in Russia (Brazil 2009).
Trend Justification: The population is suspected to be in decline owing to ongoing habitat destruction (del Hoyo et al. 1996).
Current Population Trend: Decreasing
Additional data:

?Extreme fluctuations: No ?Population severely fragmented: No
