Population [top]
Population: The global population size has not been quantified, though in Europe, the breeding population is estimated to number 230,000-1,100,000 breeding pairs, equating to 690,000-3,300,000 individuals (BirdLife International 2004), with Europe forming <5% of the global range. National population estimates include: c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs in China; c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs in Taiwan; c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs in Korea and c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs in Japan (Brazil 2009).
Trend Justification: The population is estimated to be increasing following recorded range expansions in recent years (del Hoyo et al. 2006), although In Europe, trends since 1996 have been stable, based on provisional data for 21 countries from the Pan-European Common Bird Monitoring Scheme (EBCC/RSPB/BirdLife/Statistics Netherlands; P. Vorisek in litt. 2008).
Current Population Trend: Increasing
Additional data:
?Number of mature individuals: Unknown ?Continuing decline of mature individuals: Unknown
?Extreme fluctuations: No ?Population severely fragmented: No
?Continuing decline in subpopulations: Unknown
?Extreme fluctuations in subpopulations: No ?All individuals in one subpopulation: No
