Description |
Herb, annual, up to 1 m high. Stems creeping, hairy, sometimes produce adventitious roots. Leaf sheaths reddish-purple, hairs yellowish-brown. Leaves narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 3–12 × 0.8–3 cm, apex acuminate, base cuneate to obtuse, margin scaberulate; petiole subsessile. Inflorescence with solitary spath, apically leaf-opposed. Flowers blue, three petals, anthers yellow, 1 mm long. Fruits three-angled capsule, 5 mm long, single seeded in each angle. Seeds black, egg-shaped to spherical, 2 mm long.
Habitat and ecology Forests, thickets, stream sides, and humid open places. Flowering May–September.
Geographic distribution Tropics and subtropics.
