Range Description: This species is endemic to Lake Poso, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia (Sarasin and Sarasin 1898, Glaubrecht et al. 2003, Rintelen and Glaubrecht 2006). The extent of occurrence and area of occupancy is < 323 km2.

Habitat and Ecology: This species is endemic to Lake Poso, Sulawesi (Sarasin and Sarasin 1898, Glaubrecht et al. 2003, Rintelen and Glaubrecht 2005). It only occurs at the lake fringes and down to a depth of about 20 m (T. von Rintelen pers. comm. 2012).

Major Threat(s): Threats to species in Sulawesi lakes include exotic species introductions, such as molluscivore fish species such as Walking Catfish (Clarias batrachus) and Tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum), and eutrophication caused by domestic waste pollution and fertilisers from ricefields and clove and cocoa plantations surrounding the lakes (which is particularly acute in Lake Poso) (Parenti and Soeroto 2004).
