Scientific Name Author Robinson & Kloss, 1922 Country Distribution Myanmar
Citation Description Geographic Range [top] Range Description: The exact distribution limits are unknown. This species is known from a small number of specimens from northern and eastern Myanmar, northern and central Thailand, northern and central Lao PDR, northern and southern Viet Nam, and China where it is found in Yunnan, Sichuan and Fujian (Smith et al. 2008). Records from Fujian have not been located and have not been mapped here. In Viet Nam, the population on the Langbian Plateau (the species type locality) in the south of the country may, or may not, be fragmented from the others from which the species is known. Countries occurrence: Native: China; Lao Peoples Democratic Republic; Myanmar; Thailand; Viet Nam Lower elevation limit (metres): 1200 Upper elevation limit (metres): 2400 Range Map: Click here to open the map viewer and explore range. Population [top] Population: There is little information available about the abundance and population size of this species. Current Population Trend: Unknown Additional data: ?Population severely fragmented: No Habitat and Ecology [top] Habitat and Ecology: In China, C. indochinensis inhabits montane forests from 1,200 to 2,400 m asl (Smith et al. 2008). It is found in primary and secondary forests, and occurs both in broad-leaved and coniferous forests. There is no information on whether or not it can adapt to anthropogenic habitats outside forest. Systems: Terrestrial Threats [top] Major Threat(s): The threats to this species are not known. If it is dependent on undisturbed forest, then it is likely to be threatened by habitat degradation for agriculture and timber extraction. Conservation Actions [top] Conservation Actions: Given its wide range, this species is likely to be present in a number of protected areas. Further studies are needed on the taxonomy, distribution, abundance, natural history and threats to this species. Citation: Lunde, D. 2008. Crocidura indochinensis.
