Population: Cryptocoryne ciliata is a common species of Cryptocoryne which can be found from western India to eastern New Guinea. There are two varieties of this species in Borneo; Cryptocoryne ciliata var. ciliata and Cryptocoryne ciliata var. latifolia. The first one is more common than the second one.

Habitat and Ecology: The typical habitats of Cryptocoryne are mostly streams and rivers with not too rapidly flowing water, in lowland forest. They also live in seasonally inundated forest pools or on river banks submerged only at high water.
