Current Population Trend: Unknown Additional data: Habitat and Ecology [top] Habitat and Ecology: This is a tree of mixed deciduous forests. It is noted as a seedling which regenerates naturally in teak plantations in northern Thailand (Kaewkrom et al2005). Systems: Terrestrial Use and Trade [top] Use and Trade: The wood is suitable for furniture and other domestic items. In Bangladesh it is used for cart shafts, boat masts and furniture (Rezia Khatun 2009). Threats [top] Major Threat(s): This species has the general threats associated with expanding human populations, particularly forest clearance for agricultural purposes and timber extraction. In Myanmar, for example, the total forest area decreased from 56 per cent of total land in 1990 to 52.1 per cent in 2000, and yet again to 50.2 per cent in 2005. (FAO 2009) and there are few protected areas. Conservation Actions [top] Conservation Actions: No specific conservation measures are in place for this species. It may benefit from existing protected areas, such as the Mae Yom National Park in Thailand, but many forested areas, within its range, fall outside such protection.
