Citation Description Geographic Range [top] Range Description: This widespread Southeast Asian species has been recorded from southern Thailand, Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah [a single record on the outskirts of Sandakan] and Sarawak [a recent record from Gunung Mulu National Park - J.M. Dehling unpubl. data]), Singapore, Indonesia, and Palawan in the Philippines (known from three specimens from Iwahig, but likely to range more widely) (Cox et al. 1998, Inger and Stuebing 1999, A. Diesmos pers. comm.). In Indonesia the species is known from Sumatra, and has recently been recorded from Java (D. T. Iskandar, unpubl. data). In the Philippines it has been recorded from sea level up to 100 m asl; the recent record from Gunung Mulu was at 60 m asl. (J-M. Dehling unpubl. data). Countries occurrence: Native: Brunei Darussalam; Indonesia (Jawa, Kalimantan, Sumatera); Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak); Philippines; Singapore; Thailand Additional data: ? Upper elevation limit (metres): 100 Range Map: Click here to open the map viewer and explore range. Population [top] Population: This snake is common in Peninsular Malaysia. This is however a highly cryptic species. In Palawan it is known only from three specimens. Similarly, the recent record from Sarawak reported by J-M. Dehling represents only the third record of this snake from Borneo. Current Population Trend: Unknown Additional data: ? Population severely fragmented: No Habitat and Ecology [top] Habitat and Ecology: This is a nocturnal and arboreal species, recorded from lowland primary and old secondary tropical moist forest in the Philippines (A. Diesmos pers. comm.) Peninsular Malaysia (L. Grismer pers. comm. September 2011). It is also reported to occur in hills (Cox et al. 1998). Systems: Terrestrial Use and Trade [top] Use and Trade: This species is not used or traded. Threats [top] Major Threat(s): No major threats to this species have been reported. In parts of its range, including the Philippines, there is ongoing forest loss resulting from slash and burn (kaingin) agriculture and timber extraction, but this is localized and appears to represent only a minor threat in areas where these activities are ongoing Conservation Actions [top] Conservation Actions: No species-specific conservation measures are in place. The snake is listed as nationally Data Deficient in the Philippines, as it is known from only three specimens in this country, and more research is needed into its population status and distribution within these islands.
