Habitat and Ecology: It is a benthopelagic species, usually found in ponds, tanks, ditches and canals. They are active fish that swim and feeds on insects close to the surface, and prefer well-aerated water. The species has also been found in brackish waters.

Use and Trade: Due to its small size, it is of little interest as a food fish, however it is a popular aquarium fish. It is not known whether the species is captive bred for the aquarium trade.
