Population: The global population size has not been quantified. the species is reported to be relatively common in the Sunda islands except Java where it is rare. In Indochina the species is reported to be uncommon in the southern lowlands to extremely rare, for example the species has not been seen in northern Thailand since 1945 (Lambert and Woodcock 1996).
