Range Description: The species is known from the rivers draining the western slope of the Cardamom Mountains in southwest Cambodia and the lower Mekong River drainage in Viet Nam (Mekong delta only) and Cambodia (including the Tonle Sap Lake) (Vidthayanon et al. 2008). Earlier records from the Xe Kong in Lao PDR in fact are A. bilustris.

Population: There is no information available on the population and its trends for this species. Vidthayanon et al. (2008) records it as uncommon, but its apparent rarity is more likely an artefact of poor sampling.
