Range Description: Fimbristylis schoenoides is distributed in tropical Asia, South East Asia and Australia, introduced in north America (Cook 1996). In India it is reported from Andaman and Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh (Chaechai falls), Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal (Cook 1996, Verma 2001, Lakshminarasimhan 1996, Rao and Kumari 2002). In Tamil Nadu it occurs in Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Puddukkottai, Salem, Thiruvallur, Tiruchchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai and Viluppuram (Bhargavan 1989). It is also reported from Ramanathapuram coastal area (Kurusadai Island) (Rao and Kumari 2002).
