Population: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as uncommon in Myanmar and uncertain in India, with few recent records (del Hoyo et al. 2007), while national population sizes have been estimated at c.100-10,000 breeding pairs in China and < c.10,000 introduced breeding pairs in Japan (Brazil 2009).
