Population [top]
Population: The global population is estimated to number c.1,000-10,000 individuals (Ferguson-Lees et al. 2001), equivalent to c.670-6,700 mature individuals. The population in China has been estimated at c.100-10,000 breeding pairs (Brazil 2009).
Trend Justification: The population is declining owing to human disturbance, shooting, poisoning, loss of suitable breeding sites caused by clearance of waterside forests and, possibly, over-use of pesticides (Ferguson-Lees and Christies. 2001).
Current Population Trend: Decreasing
Additional data:

?Extreme fluctuations: No ?Population severely fragmented: No
?Continuing decline in subpopulations: Unknown
?Extreme fluctuations in subpopulations: No ?All individuals in one subpopulation: No
