Population: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as widespread and fairly common in the Himalayas and rare to uncommon in Myanmar, northern Laos and northern Vietnam (del Hoyo et al. 2005), while the population in China has been estimated at < c.100,000 breeding pairs and < c.1,000 individuals on migration (Brazil 2009).
