Habitat and Ecology [top]
Habitat and Ecology: It is known in the rapids of the Mekong River.
Systems: Freshwater
Threats [top]
Major Threat(s): It may be impacted by future changes to the Mekong River flow regimes as it is restricted to rapid areas in the river, and there are plans for a dam at Khong Island (the Don Sahong dam). The dam will change patterns of sediment deposition, and lead to the erosion of river banks (Osborne 2009). Although the ecological effects of these dams on freshwater snails are poorly known Temcharoen (1992) mentioned a negative effect on the snails caused by irregular fluctuation of the water level. Water pollution due to ongoing industrialisation and agricultural development may also be a threat to the freshwater snails of the region (Temcharoen 1992).
