It has become naturalized in other areas including Australia and its origin is uncertain in islands of the west Indian Ocean, including Mauritius and Madagascar. Population [top] Population: The population size of the species is not known. However, in Queensland it has been reported as locally common (Hacker 1990). Likewise in parts of its native Asian range it is also considered to be locally common. Current Population Trend: Stable Additional data: Habitat and Ecology [top] Habitat and Ecology: A. bupleurifolius is a perennial herb which occurs in deciduous, rain, evergreen and subhumid forests. It has been reported from wastelands, grasslands, field margins and sunny places in valleys. In Queensland, Australia, it has been described as a widespread which prefers well-drained situations (Hacker 1990). However, in the Asian part of its range the species appears to require shallow water to survive and is often found in ponds, water-filled ditches and along canals.
