Range Description: The species is known from southeast Asia: southern China (Guangdong, Yunnan), from Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR (Naples 2005) and Viet Nam, and south through Malaysia to Indonesia (Philcox 1970, Turner 1995, Kress et al. 2003, eFlora 2011). It formerly occurred in Bangladesh (Ahmed et al. 2009).

Habitat and Ecology: The species occurs in the margins of streams, pools and in low-lying grassy areas. In Malaysia it is described as a rice field weed.

Use and Trade: This plant is eaten as a pot herb in western Java, because of its fragrance (Naples 2005). In Malaysia, the species has apparently become resistant to certain herbicides (International Survey of Herbicide Resistant Weeds).
