Range Description: The species occurs throughout much of Africa and from India east to China and Japan, south through Indochina and the Philippines to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Polynesia (Yamazaki 1990, Cook 1996, Kress et al. 2003, Nguyen et al. 2005, Newman 22007, Ahmed et al. 2009).

Habitat and Ecology: The species typically grows adjacent to water in seasonally inundated vegetation along streams, wet grassland, in marshes and on the margins of pools. 0-1,500 m alt.

Use and Trade [top]
Use and Trade: In action, the plant is diuretic and refrigerant. The infusion of dried plants are used in urinary affection, catarrh and gonorrhoea, with hot milk or water. A decoction of leaves is taken as an expectorant and externally used as a cosmetic for skin care. In India, the Konda reddis people use the branches for decoration and worship.
