Range Description:
Lobelia alsinoides is widely distributed in South and Southeast Asia. It is found in Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Assam, Goa, Meghalaya, Manipur and West Bengal (Cook 1996).

Habitat and Ecology:
It is annual herb and often very abundant in wet rice fields, roadside ditches and in other wet or inundated places (Cook 1996). Also common in disturbed moist deciduous forests and plantations (Sasidharan and Sivarajan 1996).

Use and Trade:
It has a bitter taste. Yod (tip of the plant that is new growth consisting of tender young leaves and stem) or whole young plant is eaten. Often cooked in curry. Since this species is easily found in the surroundings, they are often consumed and considered by many children to be their favorite wild food plants (Setalaphruk and Price 2007).
