Range Description: This snake is widespread in southern China, where it is known from the provinces of Anhui, Chongqing, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan, and Yunnan, as well as from Taiwan and Hong Kong. It was recently reported in Guangshui, Hubei Province (Dai et al 2008). Its range extends into north Viet Nam (Zhao 2006). It occurs from 580 to 1,400 m asl.

Habitat and Ecology: This snake lives in meadows, shrubland and forest near streams or rivers. It feeds on earthworms, slugs and tadpoles. This is an oviparous snake (Zhao 2006).
