Citation Description Geographic Range [top] Range Description: Marsilea minuta is widely common in almost all the states of India. It is also widely distributed in tropical Africa and Asia (Cook 1996). In the New World, M. minuta is known only from Trinidad and Tobago, and Pernambuco, Brazil, where it grows at low elevations near the coast in fresh water or occasionally in brackish water (Trinidad) on sandy or clay substrates. In eastern Trinidad this species has formed a colony that extends for several kilometres in a coastal coconut strip, but it is also found in a nearby swamp as well. In northeastern Brazil the plants have been collected in seasonal ponds. Marsilea minuta is a weedy, common, and widely distributed plant in Africa and India; its rarity in the New World may indicate that it was introduced only recently (Johnson 1986).
