Population [top] Population: This species has a wide geographic range and is found in a variety of habitats, it also tolerates some human induced disturbance. In view of this, the population is inferred to be large and stable. It is found in hilly evergreen forests and sometimes in secondary vegetation. It is also found in grasslands and beside roads and rivers. Systems: Terrestrial Use and Trade [top] Use and Trade: The seeds are considered by some ethnic groups to have aphrodisiac properties and the hairs of the pod are used as a medicine to expel intestinal worms (Rezia Khatun 2009). It is also used as a cover crop in rubber and palm oil plantations. It is fast growing, has moderate drought resistance and shade tolerance and forms a thick cover which suppresses weeds (Matthews 1998).
