The species dominant presence at the Khone falls is during the dry season, it exhibits a small peak at the beginning of the rainy season (Baran et al. 2005). Systems: Freshwater Movement patterns: Unknown Use and Trade [top] Use and Trade: There is low fishery interest in this species. It is locally consumed in households and rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Threats [top] Major Threat(s): A major threat to this species is habitat degradation from the construction of dams and other water management projects, more of which are planned for the future on both the Salween and Ayeyarwaddy rivers. The species is also thought to be at risk of competition from the non-native cyprinid Barbonymus gonionotus which has become established in the Salween after escaping from aquaculture projects in the area.
