Asia: Irrawaddy, Sittang and lower Salween basins in Myanmar. It may occur in Thailand but has not yet been collected there.

Range Description: This species is found in the Irrawaddy, Sittang and lower Salween river drainages of Myanmar, and from the Chindwin River drainage in Manipur, India (Vishwanath et al. 2007).

Population: There is no information available on the global population and its trend for this species, but this is a relatively common and abundant species in Moreh market, a border town between Manipur and Myanmar (W. Vishwanath pers. comm.).
