Range Description: This butterfly is a Sundanian species, ranging through peninsular Burma, Thailand and Malaysia (including the Langkawi Islands), and Sumatra, Indonesia. Both the extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are fairly large and in excess of the thresholds for threatened species.

Habitat and Ecology [top]
Habitat and Ecology: This butterfly inhabits primary and secondary rainforest, as well as areas of regrowth and village gardens. It is a conspicuous species that flies with a characteristic ‘bobbing’ flight, often close to the ground. It habitually rests on the undersides of leaves. The life history was recently recorded in Malaysia where larvae feed on Balanocarpus heimii (Dipterocarpaceae), Kurrimia paniculata (Celastraceae) and Fissistigma wallichii (Annonaceae), attended by ants belonging to the genera Tapinoma, Crematogaster and Lasius (Saarinen 2005).
