Habitat and Ecology [top]
Habitat and Ecology:
Nothing has been recorded about the habitat requirements of Anotogaster gigantica, but it is likely to be a species of rocky forest streams, as is the case with other Anotogaster species.
Systems: Terrestrial; Freshwater
Threats [top]
Major Threat(s):
Part of the species range, the Chin hills are one of the most remote areas of Myanmar, difficult to access. The southern parts of these hills are not very densely populated and still pretty much intact (R. Britz pers. comm. 2010), but there is evidence of slashing and burning on the eastern slopes of the area visited resulting in a burnt wood, smoky, smell along the whole valley (maybe 30 miles). If that method is applied in other areas, it would have serious impacts on the species know range, have at present there is no detailed knowledge of this area.
The threats, if any, faced by this species cannot be assessed without fresh information on its distribution and habitat.
Conservation Actions [top]
Conservation Actions:
There is an urgent need for Odonata surveys across Myanmar; such surveys are needed before any other conservation measures can be planned for this species.
