Scientific Name Author Grismer, 2006 Country Distribution Malaysia
Citation Description Geographic Range [top] Range Description: This species is known only from two sites in Peninsular Malaysia: Sungai Lembing logging camp, Pahang state, at 255 m asl; and Gunung Benom in the western part of Pahang state (Grismer 2006). The elevation of the Gunung Benom records is not recorded, though it is likely to be higher than Sungai Lembing logging camp. It presumably occurs more widely, especially in locations between the currently known sites. Countries occurrence: Native: Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia) Additional data: ? Lower elevation limit (metres): 255 Range Map: Click here to open the map viewer and explore range. Population [top] Population: It is very common at Sugai Lembing, and probably locally common at Gunung Benom. Surveys in 2008 at Sungai Lembing recorded two individuals of this species (D. Belabut pers. comm. January 2018). Its population trend is unknown. Current Population Trend: Unknown Additional data: ? Population severely fragmented: No Habitat and Ecology [top] Habitat and Ecology: This species is associated with streams in closed-canopy hill dipterocarp forest (Grismer 2006). These toads perch no higher than two metres above the ground on leaves overhanging the streambed or on the tops of large rocks along the edge of the stream (Grismer 2006). The ability of this species to adapt to modification of its forest habitat is not known. Systems: Terrestrial; Freshwater Movement patterns: Not a Migrant Use and Trade [top] Use and Trade: There are no records of this species being utilized. Threats [top] Major Threat(s): There is currently no direct information on threats to this species, but it is very likely to occur in places where its forest habitat is being lost to logging and agricultural expansion (indeed, Sungai Lembing was a logging camp). No one has recently returned to the type locality of this species to carry out any surveys, however the area has now become a popular tourist area and it is unknown whether this would have had any impact on the species (Malaysia Red List Assessment Workshop January 2018). Conservation Actions [top] Conservation Actions: Conservation Actions This species occurs on Gunung Benom, which is within Krau Wildlife Reserve, and this is well protected. No conservation actions are currently in place for this species. Research Needed Studies on its population size, distribution and trends, life history and ecology, and threats are needed.
