It is commonly distributed in East Africa and tropical Asia. In India, it is widely distributed in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kasmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal (Cook 1996). It is widely spread almost all the districts in Tamil Nadu.
