Geographic Range [top]
Range Description: Species with a native distribution in temperate and tropical Asia south through to Australasia and some Pacific Islands. It is thought to be introduced to some Indian Ocean islands including Mauritius and Reunion.

Population: The total population size is not known, but recent surveys in 2008 suggest 30 plants from Yunnan, China in the middle of its range (MSBP 2010).

Habitat and Ecology [top]
Habitat and Ecology: Phyllodium pulchellum is a perennial shrub which occurs in wastelands on hills, roadsides and sparse forests on mountain slopes. Reported from clay-loam soils.

Use and Trade: The roots and leaves are used medicinally for reducing fever and as an antiphlogistic (to reduce inflammation) and diuretic.

Major Threat(s): There are no known major threats to this species.
Conservation Actions [top]
Conservation Actions: Specimens have been collected within protected areas throughout its range such as Khuan Mae Yaimon Wildlife Sanctuary in Thailand, Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve in China, Tawushan Nature Reserve in Taiwan, Tonda Wildlife Managament Area in Papua New Guinea. Seeds have been collected as part of the Millennium Seed Bank project. It is not known to occur in any botanical garden.
