JUSTIFICATION
Listed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution, tolerance of a degree of habitat modification, presumed large population, and because it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a more threatened category.
RANGE DESCRIPTION
This species is known with certainty from Yunnan, Guizhou, Hainan, Guangxi and Guangdong Provinces in central, southern and southwestern China, and from northern Myanmar (Smith, 1940) and northern Viet Nam. It is suspected to range into northern Thailand and beyond (P. van Dijk pers. comm.). It occurs from 50-1,100m asl.
DESCRIPTION
Due to confusion with other species, the population status of this species is not known.
HABITAT AND ECOLOGY
It inhabits forests and the surrounding areas. It breeds in still-water habitats such as pools, ponds, marshes and paddy fields. It makes foam nests over pools when breeding.
THREATS
It inhabits lowland forest, which is the most threatened habitat in this region; therefore forest clearance and degradation are likely threats to this species.

It is found in several protected areas throughout its range. |
