Citation Musser, G., Dando, T. & Kennerley, R. 2019. Prosciurillus weberi. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species 2019: e.T18365A22256206. https://dx.doi.org/10.2305/IUCN.UK.2019-1.RLTS.T18365A22256206.en. Downloaded on 21 July 2021. Description JUSTIFICATION The exact geographic range of Prosciurillus weberi requires resolution, however currently it has only been found in the southern part of the central core of Sulawesi, with an estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) of 2,271 km². Although its ecology is mostly unknown, this species, like all the other species of squirrels endemic to Sulawesi, is a forest obligate, and there is continued destruction of the forest in southern Sulawesi through logging and conversion to agriculture within its range. RANGE DESCRIPTION This squirrel is known from a few specimens collected in lowlands (100 m) near Palopo and Masamba in the southern part of the central core of Sulawesi. Its actual distribution has yet to be resolved (Musser et al. 2010). DESCRIPTION Nothing is known about population size or trends for this species HABITAT AND ECOLOGY Specimens of Prosciurillus weberi were collected in areas once covered by tropical lowland evergreen rainforest. Otherwise, its ecological traits are undocumented and presently unknown. Its habits, however, are likely similar to other members of the P. leucomus group: occupies the upper canopy of primary forest and includes soft fruits, seeds and insects in its diet (Musser et al. 2010). THREATS This species is threatened by habitat loss from human disturbance, predominately agricultural conversion of land and deforestation (Whitten et al. 2012) CONSERVATION ACTIONS No current conservation efforts are in place and it is not known if this species distribution is within a protected area.
