Population severely fragmented: No Habitat and Ecology [top] Habitat and Ecology: It is found in many rivers of northern and north eastern India, in clear streams with rocky beds. This species was introduced into Walwham and Lonavla lakes (Poona District) in 1926, where they have successfully bred. The fish breeds during early monsoon season (June) in heavily inundated areas. It breeds approximately after attaining three years of age. Its wide mouth and stream-lined body are well suited for a predaceous life.
