Habitat and Ecology [top]
Habitat and Ecology: It is found in many rivers of northern and north eastern India, in clear streams with rocky beds. This species was introduced into Walwham and Lonavla lakes (Poona District) in 1926, where they have successfully bred. The fish breeds during early monsoon season (June) in heavily inundated areas. It breeds approximately after attaining three years of age. Its wide mouth and stream-lined body are well suited for a predaceous life.

Use and Trade: This species grows to 30 cm and weighs 2.26 kg; usually it weighs below one kg. It takes fly well and is a good game fish. It is a fine flavoured delicate fish. It is also a game fish.
