Population [top] Population: It is a cosmopolitan species and distributed commonly almost all over its known distribution. Current Population Trend: Stable Additional data: ? Population severely fragmented: No Habitat and Ecology [top] Habitat and Ecology: It is a small annual shrub with thick stems, coming profusely after rainfall in the months of July and August. It is found scattered in cultivated fields but cannot be considered as a troublesome weed. However, it is not confined to wetlands but often found in swamps, marshy wastelands, water-logged places, banks of ponds and rivers, rice fields and seasonally inundated areas. It is also tolerates saline and alkaline conditions (Cook 1996). The mature seeds of this species are known to be cooked and eaten by the Indian tribals, Katkharis and Ghonds (Siddhuraju et al. 1995).
