Range Description: Recorded from primary forest in northern Viet Nam and southeastern Yunnan, China (Ly et al. 2010). It occurs at less than ten locations and has an estimated extent of occurrence of 15,359 km².

Population: No detailed data on population size and trends are available, but the species is fairly common in primary forests in northern Viet Nam and the subpopulation seen recently seems to be well established with seedlings present.

Habitat and Ecology: Grows in the moist and shady understorey of broadleaved evergreen mixed forest at elevations between 600 and 800 m asl.

Use and Trade: There is no apparent trade in this taxon, but local people collect rhizomes of this species for medicinal purposes. It has not been seen for sale at the markets so far, so presumably the collection from the wild is on a fairly small non-commercial scale at present.

Major Threat(s): Habitat destruction and over-collection of rhizomes from the wild are the two major potential threats.
