This species is very widespread. It is a rice field weed and is introduced throughout much of the southern United States.

Habitat and Ecology:
This species occurs in seasonally wet areas, on moist soil or on low riverbanks, along ditches, marshes, dry riverbeds and ponds, up to 300 m asl. It is also found in lowland- irrigated and rain-fed rice fields. It can tolerate brackish water.
