Range Description: The species is known from India (West Bengal; Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, Maharashtra Province (requires confirmation), Hugli River (Konnagar, Dakineshwar)), Viet Nam (Tonkin), Bangladesh (WWF 2011), Myanmar (Pegu), and Sri Lanka (University of Florida Malacology database). There is an unconfirmed record from the Philippines (Abbott 1958).

Population: Spawn densities of Assiminea spp. were observed more than 1000 m-2 (A. Dey pers. comm. 2010) from August to December in India. The maximum population density recorded in the Hugli-Matla estuary was 230 m-2 on average (Subba Rao et al. 1995).

Habitat and Ecology [top]
Habitat and Ecology: It is the only species of Assiminea that is found in fresh water, within areas of tidal influence. It is a detritus feeder that occurs in ponds and canals linked to the Hugli River, and extends as far north as Bandel (India). This species either crawls on the mud or remains attached to bricks, stones, wood, grass etc. on the bank (Ramakrishna and Dey 2007).
