Range Description: This species occurs in lowland rainforest over much of New Guinea (both Indonesia and Papua New Guinea) and Yapen Island (Indonesia), but it is apparently absent from the eastern half of Papua New Guinea. It occurs from the lowlands up to 1,000m asl.

Population: It is abundant where it occurs, but is distributed patchily.

Habitat and Ecology: It occurs in lowland and foothill rainforest, and also persists in highly degraded rainforest habitats. It presumably breeds by direct development, probably with subterranean nests.

Major Threat(s): Although not well known, this species has a broad distribution across most of western and central New Guinea and given extent of suitable habitat and lack of threats there appears to be no cause for concern.
