Range Description:
This is a widespread species found in coastal areas of Thailand, Cambodia, Viet Nam, Mauritius, India, Myanmar, Malaysia (coastal areas of all provinces), Indonesia (Sumatra, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Moluccas, Lesser Sunda Islands), New Guinea, northern and eastern Australia, New Caledonia and New Ireland, the Philippines, Fiji, Taiwan and China. In Thailand, it was found in the eastern provinces of Chonburi, Chanthaburi, Trat, Rayong as well as in the southern provinces of Ranong, Trang and Nakhon Si Thammarat (Brandt 1974). Brown (1971) recorded the species from a mangrove swamp in South Africa (this record requires confirmation), and it appears that the species full distribution requires further investigation.

Habitat and Ecology: In Thailand, it is numerous in mangrove swamps, nipa palm forests and mud flats with vegetation. This species is found in brackish waters in lagoons and estuaries (Brandt 1974).
