Range Description: Bassozetus robustus is distributed in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. In the Atlantic this species is distributed from North Carolina to Colombia, including the Gulf of Mexico. This species has also be reported from the southern coast of Brazil. In the Indian Ocean this species is distributed from Kenya to South Africa. This species has also be recored off the west coast of Australia, and east of the Maldives. In the Pacific Ocean this species has been recorded from the Phillipines, east Australia, New Caledonia, Kermadec Island, and east of New Zealand.

Habitat and Ecology: Bassozetus robustus is a benthopelagic species found at a depth range of 1,035-4,420 m. Members of the Bassozetus genus, are generally bottom living species. Species of the family Ophidiidae are oviparous with pelagic larvae (Nielsen 1999).
