Citation Description Geographic Range [top] Range Description: The species is widespread across the central Cordillera of Northern Luzon, documented from Mt. Data, Mt Amuyao and Balbalasang, at an elevation range of 1,650-2,600 m asl. (Rickart et al. 2011, Rickart et al. 2016). It is likely to be distributed more widely at similar elevations and habitats possibly including the Caraballos Mountains and the Sierra Madre (L. Heaney pers. comm 2017.). Countries occurrence: Native: Philippines Additional data: ? Lower elevation limit (metres): 1650 ? Upper elevation limit (metres): 2600 Range Map: Click here to open the map viewer and explore range. Population [top] Population: Its population appears to be stable (L. Heaney pers. comm. 2017). Current Population Trend: Stable Additional data: ? Population severely fragmented: No Habitat and Ecology [top] Habitat and Ecology: Batomys granti occurs in primary and secondary montane and mossy forest and is usually more common in mossy forest than montane forest (Heaney et al. 2016, Rickart et al. 2011, Rickart et al. 2016). It appears to be absent above 2,600 m elevation, with a known elevational range between 1,650-2,600 m. Batomys granti also appears relatively tolerant to disturbance (Rickart et al. 2011). Batomys granti is predominately found on the ground, however arboreal captures indicate this species has climbing abilities, with foraging activity recorded both on the ground and in trees (Rickart et al. 2016). This species’ diet is made up of plant material with foraging taking place at night (Rickart et al. 2016). Systems: Terrestrial Threats [top] Major Threat(s): The absence of this species from Mt. Pulag National Park highlights the severe threat of commercial agriculture in reducing habitat availability and quality for this species (Balete et al. 2015). Commercial vegetable farming on Mt. Data has reduced the forest cover to an 80 ha patch of disturbed mossy forest (Heaney et al. 2006). As well as this, the increasing ease of access to the peak of Mt. Amuyao has increased the number of trekkers and ecotourists, which further puts pressure on B. granti (Rickart et al. 2016). Conservation Actions [top] Conservation Actions: This species is located within the protected areas of Balbalasang-Balbalan National Park and Mt. Data National Park, however the population on Mt Amayao is not protected. Errata [top] Errata reason: The original version of this assessment was published with an older version of the distribution map. This errata assessment uses the updated distribution map.
