Range Description: This an extremely widespread species through most of South East Asia. It is thought to be native to Brunei, Java and Kalimantan but has been introduced elsewhere including parts of Africa, South America and Hawaii. It is also thought to be native to the Philippines by some authors (Lock and Ford (2004) Hou et al. (1996),) although Merrill (1923) thought it may have been introduced. It is treated as native to this area in this assessment. Hou et al. (1996) also consider it to be native to Borneo and specimens from here have also been included. However, the exact native range is obscure due to extensive cultivation.
