Range Description: This species is recorded from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatera, through Borneo to the Lesser Sunda Islands.

Population: This species is found in a variety of habitats and over a wide range. The population is inferred to be large. The most recent herbarium specimen found is dated 2007.

Habitat and Ecology [top]
Habitat and Ecology: This large liana is found in primary forest, heath and riverine forest on plains and hills. It occurs on podzols, sandstone, clay and ultrabasic substrates. It has been recorded from secondary forest and from roadsides.

Use and Trade: It is reported to be used in religious ceremonies in North Borneo (De Wit 1956).
Threats [top]
Major Threat(s): The lowland forest habitat of this species has suffered from loss and degradation through timber extraction and clearing for agriculture, including large plantations such as palm oil and rubber. It has also been encroached on by expanding human settlement and infrastructure developments.
Conservation Actions [top]
Conservation Actions: No specific conservation measures are in place for this species. It has been recorded from protected areas, such as the Bako National Park in Sarawak. It has been recorded from secondary forest and along roadsides and may tolerate some disutrbance. It is also recorded ex situ as cultivated in Singapore (Chong et al. 2009).
