Habitat and Ecology: The species is found in lakes, rice fields, ponds and other lentic habitats.
First intermediate host for Opisthorchiid liver flukes Clonorchis sinensis. Clonorchiasis caused by Clonorchis sinensis and Opisthorchis viverrini is endemic throughout Southeast Asia in countries such as China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia (Tinga et al. 1999)
