Habitat and Ecology [top]
Habitat and Ecology: B. hydroides is found in the intertidal environment including mud flats, estuaries, and possibly mangroves. This species has been observed burrowing into the mud and uses a sidewinding locomotion on mud surfaces. It is probably more active at night. This species is piscivorous. The species of goby fishes that have been found in the stomaches of examined specimens suggesting that this species may forage more deeply than the depths it is typically found at (Jayne et al. 1995, Murphy 2007).
Systems: Freshwater; Marine
Threats [top]
Major Threat(s): There are no known major threats to this species. A minor threat may be dredging of mangroves or mudflats. Pollution may also affect these species.
Conservation Actions [top]
Conservation Actions: There are no specific conservation measures for this species. In view of the species wide range, it seems possible that it is present within some protected areas (e.g. in southern Thailand), although this requires confirmation.
This species is poorly known and difficult to make conservation recommendations, although further research is clearly needed on its range, population size, etc.
