Range Description: The species is known from the Maenam San river and its tributary Huai Kao Man (Heung River system), and from the catchment of the Loei River, Loei Province in northeast Thailand. Reports from Lao PDR, Viet Nam and from Myanmar are considered erroneous (Köhler and Glaubrecht 2006).

Habitat and Ecology: This species prefers fast flowing, well oxygenated water, on hard substrates like rocks but can also be found on sandy ground in quiet parts of rivers and streams. Not in polluted or stagnant water.

There are no known specific threats to this species, but it would be vulnerable to water pollution and sedimentation if, like other Brotia species, it requires clean fast flowing water.
