Los Baños, Philippines. 327p Description Rhizomatous erect herb, up to 2 m tall; stem thin, hollow, stiff, with scattered patent and glandular hairs. Leaves bipinnate or tripinnate compound; stipules partly joined to the petiole, scarious, up to 2 cm long; petioles 15?40 cm long, with long patent hairs; leaflets ovate to narrowly ovate, sessile or petiolate up to 2 cm long, middle leaves symmetric, the two lateral ones strongly asymmetric, base rounded to cordate, apex long acuminate, margin serrate, dark green or reddish with scattered stiff hairs on upper surface, pale green with prominent tomentose veins on lower surface. Inflorescence terminal, panicles, up to 40 cm long. Flowers white or reddish, subtended by a persistent, narrow, serrate bract, 2 mm long; sepals ovate, 4?5, green, glabrous, 1?2 mm long; petals absent or 1–2 minute; stamens 5?10(?12), filaments 2–3 mm long, anthers orbicular, cream to brown; ovary of 2 almost free carpels, superior, styles divergent; pedicels 1?2 mm long, with tiny bracteoles. Fruits follicle, red, divergent, up to 5 mm long, dehiscing along the ventral suture. Seeds numerous, small. Habitat and ecology Hill evergreen forest, open places, and along forest margins, 2,450–2,565 m elevation. In Thailand, only found at Doi Inthanon National Park. Geographic distribution N India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, China (Yunnan), N Thailand, Lao PDR, and Viet Nam.
