JUSTIFICATION
Listed as Least Concern on the basis that this species has a wide range, it is somewhat adaptable, and there are no substantial threats over most of the range.
RANGE DESCRIPTION
This species is known from Vietnam, where it has been recorded in the provinces of Lai Chau (Muong Te), Ha Tay (Ba Vi National Park) and Ninh Binh (Cuc Phuong National Park) (Bourret 1939, Ngo et al. 2000, Hikida et al. 2002, Nguyen et al. 2009). It has recently been recorded from Xieng Khouang Province, in Laos (B. Stuart pers. comm. 2017). Reports from Thailand are considered erroneous (Nguyen et al. 2009). It has been recorded from about 400 to 1,500 m asl.
DESCRIPTION
It seems to be an uncommon species, however it is cryptic. Overall the population is thought to be stable.
HABITAT AND ECOLOGY
This species inhabits mid-hill forests at an elevation of 400 m asl., where it has been recorded near hill streams and, more rarely, in burrows excavated on embankments (Das 2010). It is usually found beneath rocks and leaf litter in burrows on banks (Ngo et al. 2000). It can be found in primary, secondary forest, and disturbed habitats.
THREATS
In Vietnam, there are limited threats. In Laos, while it can be found in disturbed forest, part of the species range is being converted to agricultural use through slash and burn agriculture.
USE AND TRADE
There is no use of or trade in this species.
CONSERVATION ACTIONS
This species is known from several protected areas in Vietnam, but not in Laos. More surveys are needed in Laos to better determine its distribution. |
