Leaves imparipinnate, 3–9-foliolate; rachis winged, up to 3 mm wide on each side; leaflets ovate-elliptic to lanceolate, 6–10 × 2–4 cm, glabrous to rust-colored pubescent, sessile, base cuneate to rounded, apex rounded to acute, margin entre or crenate. Inflorescence axillary. Flowers unisexual; perianth 6–8, pale yellowish green, 1.5 mm long. Male flowers: stamens 5–6; anthers reddish purple; rudimentary carpels 2–5. Female flowers: stamens lacking; carpels 2–5, sparsely hirsute to glabrous. Fruits follicles, globose, 4 mm in diam., purplish red, with large oil glands and protruding. Seeds 3 mm in diam., black. Habitat and ecology Edges of hill evergreen forest, and disturbed areas, 1,400–2,500 m elevation. Geographic distribution India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Thailand, Lao PDR, Viet Nam, Malaysia, and Indonesia (Sumatra).
