Leaves simple or compound-trifolioate, simple leaf lamina narrowly ovate, 6–13 × 2.5–6 cm, compound leaflets lamina lanceolate, 7–13 × 4–7 cm; apex acuminate, base rounded to truncate, margin entire, chartaceous, green above, paler green below; hairy domatia present at the base of lateral vein below, sometimes in axils of primary vein; petiole 1–1.5 cm long. Inflorescence axillary and terminal, cymose-corymbose. Flowers white and fragrant, open about 1 cm wide; calyx tube 2 mm long, lobes triangular; corolla tube 1 cm long. Fruits berry, greenish, turning purple black when ripe, globose or ovoid, 5–8 × 4–6 mm. Habitat and ecology Upper montane forests from 1,900–2,565 m elevation. Flowering March– June; fruiting August–April. Geographic distribution India, Nepal, Upper Myanmar, S China (Yunnan), and N Thailand.
